Receiving the Flagstaff flag and rope for Brahmotsav

On 20 Dec 2006 , the Deputy Commissioner and chief priest from the Temple of
Arunachala , Tiruvannamalai, brought with them a flag and its rope with the
blessings of Arunachala. This flag will be hoisted on the flag staff of the
Temple of Sri Anandeshwar on 23 Dec, to mark the start of the 10-day Brahmotsav
festival of deities, part of the 30 th Jayanti celebrations of Swamiji. A rare
honour and a mark of great respect from the Arunachala temple, this event was
witnessed by all those at the ashram amidst much joy.
20 Dec, 5 pm - The flag staff is being covered with tailor-made copper covering.
Swamiji waits next to the chariot of Sri Anandeshwar for the Arunachala group
to arrive.
6:47 pm - The group from Arunachala arrives. Swamiji receives them with poorna
kumbha , a traditional welcome showing great respect.
6:49 pm - Swamiji leads the group in a circumambulation around
the chariot.
6:57 pm - The flag and rope are set at the feet of Sri
Anandeshwar under the sacred banyan tree and the priest from Arunachala offers arati
. Swamiji explained to them the significance of the sacred banyan.
Carrying the blessings of Arunachala, the Arunachala group felicitates Swamiji
with offerings from the temple.
